About Us
Welcome to our website, and thanks for visiting
We are Dave and Margaret Calder and we setup ‘Cara’.
Cara opened for business in August 2013 and closed in January 2017.
It had one simple objective and that was to see if a holiday cottage could be established that had no ‘buts’. That is of providing the most relaxing break ever without any caveats at the end of the holiday.
This meant we had to look at things from the client perspective and eliminate the stress factors that would prevent them chilling out from the moment they arrived.
So Cara had seclusion, being set back from the lane and backing onto fields.
It had luxury, with top quality soft furnishings.
It had space, so that you didn’t feel shoehorned into a small box for your holiday.
And where we could we installed appliances with easy and intuitive controls (although I’m not so sure about the smart TV where technology has won over simplicity)
When you arrived, you’ll find coffee, tea and biscuits for a refreshing snack after your journey without having to unpack the car to find your food box.
And then, once you’d had a chance to look round, we’d pop round to make you feel welcome, introduce you to things you may have missed like the remote control on the electric fire, answer any questions and explain the Hot Tub controls. Just to make sure that these questions were answered at the beginning, not as it all came to an end
Throughout, the response was 100% positive, as could be seen by reading the comments in the guest book at Cara. And was verified by the number of bookings rising – many by referrals and returning guests – to 42 weeks booked out of the 52 available in the year.
Shortly we will be amending this website to provide tips and hints to anyone thinking of setting up a holiday cottage, whether it is their own second home, or if it has been purchased for the purpose

Our objective was achieved. Our clients think we’ve succeeded. Our best comment to date is that ‘Cara redefines the standard for every future holiday’.
However, Cara is now closed for business but we would like to say a huge Thank You to everyone who has made Cara such a success, and who has enjoyed their holiday there – and proved that holiday cottages don’t need to come with a ‘but’
